Rock of (Old) Ages
A fine opening act was Cheap Trick, with their best known songs remaining true to the original live or studio versions. Rod the Mod was a wonderful way to get the crowd warmed up.
Highlights included a spot on version of "Dream Police" and a raucous "Ain't That a Shame."
We thought Stewart started a little slow, but gradually warmed up and captivated the audience.
Particularly impressive were the musicians, guitar and sax, with Rod featuring them happily during many songs.
We always appreciate a "rock star" giving lesser known artists the spotlight during performances.
Some highlights were the cover songs Rod and/or his female backup singers performed, such as "Addicted to Love," "Hot Stuff," "Have You Ever Seen the Rain," and "Call Me."
The gorgeous backup singers displayed great talent, with some playing fiddle, violin, and mandolin.
About 2/3 of the way through the evening, Rod slowed things down for an acoustic set of about 5 songs, a real highlight.
He finished with some up-tempo numbers, including "Hot Legs" and "Stay With Me," kicking soccer (football) balls into the crowd for a few minutes.
For a gentleman in his late 70s, he was surprisingly nimble and a wonderful showman.
Overall, the show exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend it to fans of either artist.
At their respective ages, they won't be performing for much longer, so catch them now before it's too late. Enjoy and thanks!
